BEST WEEBLY WIDGETS AND APPS

I quite often get asked by clients and regular Weebly users which are the best Weebly apps and widgets and are there any that I would recommend? There are lots of bad weebly apps out there and many that you can quite do with a bit of simple coding. Some of the Weebly Apps are quite clunky (slow your website down) and are also quite costly. Although some Weebly Apps offer free versions many of these have limitations such as branding, customisation and design. If you hunt around (Google Search) you can find similar apps that are available on other platforms that can also be added just by embeding some code.

OWIDS APP ON WEEBLY

I shall start of with undoubtedly one of the best apps on Weebly! Although this app is actually available on most other web platforms.
The Owids App is a one stop shop for dozens of free web apps and community website widgets.

On this page I am using two of them, the left hand side bar and the scroll to top button that appears as you scroll down the page. And these are just two of several Weebly apps which are super useful and I would say a must have for any Weebly website.

WEEBLY RSS NEWS FEED

So this is a really handy app that gives you the ability to display your latest blog or news articles in a ticket tape style news reel that is clickable (provides a link). Unlike some other feeds it actually gives you seperate clickable links to your individual articles. Rather than just a link to your entire blog or news page. What I like about this is that it is really somple and you can quickly and easily change and customise your colours and fonts. It's free to use version allows you to dispaly the last 5 articles, which is perfect. And below you can see it in action.

​WEEBLY COLOR BLOCK APP

This Weebly App allows you to create custom colour blocks, just like what I am using here. Again this is super simple to use, it's drag and drop and then you just drag and drop your content into the colour block area. You also have the ability to set transparency, rounded corners and additional padding.

A must have Weebly App in my book

​WEEBLY CONTENT COLOR BOX

​This is a slightly superior version of the previous app, that allows for one more option, borders. 
You can create some quite interesting content boxes with this app to help with your theme. And with the previous app you can drag ad drop any of the build elements. I have found both of these useful when my contact form colours are not exactley accessible.
​This version includes rounded corners, but also border lines. As shown in this example here.

There is another app that goes another step further in terms of design and customisation and that is Mighty Box.

WEEBLY PORTHOLE APP

This pretty much does what it says on the tin. It turns your images circular. It is worth noting that your image needs to be square for this to create a perfect circle. See example below which is oval or rugby ball shaped, because I used a rectangular image. This is again a must have Weebly App and is great for creating professional, unique and custom themes within Weebly.

Weebly Boom Poll App

I could have quite easily started off with this really useful Weebly Poll App. The design options and outputs are endless and I don't think I have really fully tried out all the options here. And I believe there is so much more you can do than meets the eye. I have only tried out the free option and that is pretty good although the menus are a little confusing. But once you get the hang of it, it is really quick to create a simple poll with outputs such as graphs and percentage results. This is definitely one app I will be coming back to and seeing what else it can do.

Weebly, even with it's free websites come with a free SSL Certificate that is updated automatically, although in some cases with older websites  you may have to change your domains ip address to the new one they will supply you with in the settings.
