WHAT IS A SSL CeRTIFICATE

Will a SSL Certificates help Search Engine Optimisation?

What is a SSL Certificate and Does my Website Need one?

Do I need an SSL CertificateWHAT IS SSL?
SSL Certificates basically make your website encrypted so it is less likely or more difficult to be hacked or content stole. So why would I need an SSL Certificate I hear you ask. Well for quite a few more reasons than you would think.
  • You have an online shop that requires credit card transactions
  • You have a member login section
  • You have files being uploaded to your website
  • You have content you want to keep secure
More important Google has apparently just released news that websites with a SSL Certificate will be more trustworthy as it is more secure and safe and then more likely to rank higher vs other websites without a SSL Certificate....?

Or am I just reading too much into this..........................?

Further SSL Certificate Information

SSL Certificates create a padlock and therefore a https protocol (over port 443) that only allows secure connections from a web server to a browser.  SSL is used to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and logins, and more recently is becoming the norm when securing browsing of social media sites. SSL Certificates secure:
  • A domain name, server name or hostname
  • An organisational identity (i.e. company name), i.p. address and location
  • Any business needs to install the SSL Certificate to its web server to create secure sessions with internet browsers.
Depending on the type of SSL Certificate applied for, the organisation will need to go through various levels of vetting.

When installed, it is possible to connect to the website over https://www.domain.com, as this tells the server to establish a secure connection with the internet browser. When a secure connection is established, all web traffic between the web server and the web browser will be apparently totally secure. Browsers will tell visitors a website is SSL secure via several visible trust indicators, most notably the HTTPS

SO with the cost of a SSL Certificate being anywhere from £40 up to over several hundreds per year, depending on type and reseller, is it WORTH IT?

Well let the TRIAL BEGIN. So over the next few weeks I will trial this and report back.

SSL CERTIFICATE UPDATE

SSL Certificate UpdateSSL UPDATE
I set up a new website using a SSL certificate purchased through Godaddy and in addition I used the GoDaddy website builder software on the domain name www.topseolondon.uk on Friday the 12th of September 2014 . This is one of my main keywords that I go for "Top SEO London" and I already rank at No.1 and No.3 for this keyword and "Best SEO London".  And hey presto I made it to Page one of Google by Sunday the 14th of September. Just over 48hrs later.

I now realise in my haste to trial this that I should have left the website for a few weeks without the SSL Certificate and then add it once the site had become stable in Google.

So I am now going to attempt to reverse engineer this and in a couple of weeks, once the site has settled down in Google, remove the SSL Certificate.

Watch this space to find out how we get on..........
