Scam Web Security Email
So we have probably all heard about the email where they phone you up, claim to be from Microsoft Security and then tell you your computer has been infected by viruses and trojans etc.
Well here's a new one. But trust me this is a complete scam, they did not even get the CMS system right. Alarm bells should start to ring when they say " As our work involves proprietary security measures, we cannot talk with your webmaster or technical people. We will only discuss these concerns with you" Anyway you have been warned From: Michael Dean <[email protected]> Subject: Your website has failed our security scan Hello, My name is Michael Dean and I work with a website security company that helps small businesses in the local community with their website security needs. Over the past few weeks, we have been selecting random WordPress websites to test for known safety vulnerabilities. We completed eight tests on your website and five failed. Below are our findings: 1. Your WordPress version is not current. 2. The default administrator username is being used. 3. Your configuration file is publically accessible. 4. Your uploads folder is publically accessible. 5. Your upgrade file is publically accessible. This means that your website is at risk for being hacked. We wanted to email you right away to send you some information about what you can do. Time is of the urgency here. WordPress sites are known to be a popular platform for hackers because they are easy to penetrate. The problem with any level of attack is that it can end up costing businesses thousands of dollars. We strongly recommend that you get these problems fixed as soon as possible. If Google deems your website unsafe you run the risk of being removed from their search results altogether. You may visit our website and conduct a complete security scan for yourself and learn how to fix the flaws that are currently leaving your website wide open to hackers. As our work involves proprietary security measures, we cannot talk with your webmaster or technical people. We will only discuss these concerns with you. Please contact me as soon as possible either by email [email protected] or telephone at 702-473-0872 so that we can rectify this problem. Thanks, Michael Dean WPSafetyNet(dot)Com P.S. On average it takes us between 4-6 hours to fix these types of issues (provided the audit does not reveal anything further). Our usual rate is $497. However, if you contact me right away I can offer a $200 discount. Call me at 702-473-0872 so we can get your site secured as quickly as possible. NOTICE: Due to the large amount of websites we test on a daily basis, this will be the only notification you will receive from us regarding your website security. Thanks for your understanding. If you no longer wish to receive notifications from our company, please reply back to this message. |
