HOW MANY WEBSITE PAGES DO I NEED?

So. when I get a new client they are usually asking me why they 're website is not ranking in Google.

One of the most common issues I find is that their website does not have enough pages. And then they ask "How many pages do I need?" 

Well that does depend. I do know that more equals better, but what is the minimum?

Yeah, so generally I tell my clients they need a minumum of 6 pages and a blog page to rank. 

And that each page needs a minimum of x number of keywords, images and additional content.

BUT DO I KNOW THIS FOR SURE?
Well in short no? All I Know is Google loves content and the more content you have the better your page will rank.

SO I DECIDED TO TEST IT
So initially I set up a one page wbsite for my name "Zach Mendelsohn". I thought well that ar are quite a few websites and people causing Zach Mendelsohn and that would be a simple and easy benchmark. to follow.

I mean, if I can't rank highly for my own name then surely there is proof in the theory (nearly said pudding then).

So it took nearly 3 weeks for Google to pick it up in searches (seacrh results) despite me linking to it.

And is now only on page 3 of Google.

NOT THE BEST START UP
Usually my page would be picked up within 48hrs bu not this one. 3 weeks.........

SO I ADDED A GOOGLE BUSINESS LISTING
Not sure whether this helped or was the main reason why I got listed but I have now linked this account with Google Business. See here https://zach-mendelsohn.business.site

Interestingly this webpage is now No.1 in Bing Search Engine.

It appears Google is a bit more disconcerting!

WILL SOCIAL MEDIA HELP?
So that has not stopped me!

I have used existing accounts and created new social media channels to link to this new website.

And I have basically thrown everything at it.

So will a  one page ZACH MENDELSOHN website rank highly in Google?

SEO RESULTS THUS FAR
Results are ongoing but they do seem to back up my and other peoples theories.

WHICH IS: That you need more than one wesbite page to rank highly in Google. 

HOWEVER
Results were not as bad as I expected though and I hope to update you on further improvements.

Should I be using Schema Markup? schema markup is kind of a new form of optimisation that can help improve your Google SERPS and provide valuable information in search results that will catch the users eyes and improve your click through rate.. 

So what is Schema Markup, well it is code (semantic vocabulary) that you can place into your website to help the search engines return more informative results for searchers. Schema Markup can be used to highlight and emphasise anything from:

• Embedded non-text objects: AudioObject, ImageObject, VideoObject,

But be careful, Google is now cracking down on decpetive and mis-used Schema Markups on websites. With the added threat that your website may be excluded from the search engine. Specifically if your are found to be using incorrect and Schema Markup that is misleading.

How do I know if duplication is affecting my Website Optimisation? and what can I do to stop my content being picked up as duplicate content? In this section I shall look at a few tools you can use as well as Google Webmaster to help you figure out if your website's SEO is being penalised because your canonical links in your header or htaccess file.

SSL CERTIFICATES
With the introduction of SSL Cetificates "Secure Sockets Layer" delivering websites over https "Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure" you could now have 4 different versions of your website being presented which could throw up more duplication issues for your website. What's more be carful which you link too!

POSITIVE SSL CERTIFICATES
In the ever changin world of SSL Certificates there are now what they call positive SSL Certificates. But I'm finding conflicting information on these! 

On one hand some are saying these are perfect for start ups and blogs!

But elsewhere I am finding that these certificates are specifically designed for large business websites that deal with a shopping cart and transactions and offers an extra layer of security.

So which is it?

Well I have just entered into the SEO Hero challenge with online website builder wix who has challenged everyone to beat them. Apparently everyone has been saying how rubbish their onsite SEO features are. So to put the matter straight they have built a website and as of 16th of November they have challenged the interent world to bet them, To win you must rank higher than them for the keyword "SEO Hero" in the gogle search engine by and on 16 th o March 2017.

So for those that know me I tend to favour Weebly for my websites and for optimization.

It is a tried and tested patform and with the ability to edit code I believe it is unbeatable.

However the guys at WIX have had months to build, edit, refine, get blog posts and articles ready their website. They ultimately have a platform, the staffing and the outreach with existing clients and advertising audience to smash the hell out of this challenge. Aditionally we have to give them access to our webmaster and analytics accounts. Do we get access to theirs? Not a chance.

Kind of one sided contest but hey they are dealing with WIX platform, but I suppose their tech guys will have the ability to edit the backend of their website, so I for one wil be keeping a firm eye on their actual website to ensure it is exactley the WIX Platform and they are not adding back end coding, that is impossible if joe bloggs was to decide to build their own website on that platform,

It will be the equivalent of Gladiator where the hero before the battle has been shackled and stabbed.

And so I don't upset my favourite registrar Godaddy if here is attempt in their website builder, nope had to change this, was not working out as I suddenly had other issues.

UPDATE - SO I FINISHED IN 7th AND 9th PLACE (IN THE WORLD)

There was a lot of cheating going on, also by WIX (paid marketing) and I really don't agree with the judges decision. The temrs and conditions stated that the website must be in english but the winner used both Engish and French?!

Glad I entered but fully realise it was a marketing tool used by WIX to basically stop the bad press about it's really SEO. So let's hope they have improved.

By the way I believe I was the only one in the top 50 to be using Weebly as it's platform. So I should get extra Kudos here. 

I did contact Weebly for some support during the competition but I heard nothing back! There loss....... in promoting their own platform.

Having read some interesting news from a few varied sources regarding SSL Certificates I decided to put the rumour mill to the test. As there have been some varying comments and discussions on how much this will actually help.

So I built a new website and optimised the website as I normally would do but this time with a SSL Certificate.

SSL Certificates cost about £50 per year depending on where and who you purchase it from and can be relatively simple to set up!
What will the results tell us?

So, I have just redone my website, changing it to a sleeker more modern looking design. Still lots more work to do, but I think it's an improvement.
